What should I do if I find an injured or stray cat?

The most important step is to protect yourself while getting the cat appropriate help quickly. Approach slowly and quietly to avoid startling them, as scared or injured cats may bite or scratch. Never chase the cat, and allow it time to settle.

How should I safely contain and transport a hurt cat?

Use a sturdy pet carrier or a humane trap whenever possible. A thick blanket or towel can help gently contain the cat, but proceed with extreme caution. Keep the cat warm and quiet while arranging travel, and transport them immediately to an emergency clinic or vet.

Can I give an injured cat over-the-counter painkillers?

No. Never attempt to treat serious injuries yourself or give human medications or painkillers, as common over-the-counter drugs are extremely toxic and fatal to cats. Always seek professional veterinary assistance.

Who should I call for help with feral or community cats?

Reach out to local  area veterinarians, animal shelters, rescue groups, or experienced local TNR volunteers who have specialized equipment and experience safely managing community cats.
